The Preston Group reduces costs on HQ Apartment projectAs part of the construction of HQ apartments, developer Milfab and builder Leighton Contractors employed the Preston Groups’ Mini Crawler crane to enable steel to be lifted 35 meters from the ground to the roof area for assembly. The mostly completed HQ site posed spatial challenges requiring the Preston Mini Crawler crane to be disassembled to fit into the buildings service lift for transportation to the top floor. The disassembled crane had a minimum of 40mm clearance throughout the whole operation. The removal of the boom section of the Preston Mini Crawler enabled the team to place the main body of the crane into the service lift, while a custom made trolley transported the Mini Crawler boom section. The reassembly of the Mini Crawler crane was aided by a chain block attached to a support beam on the top floor, allowing the team to manoeuvre the boom into place efficiently and with minimum effort. Peter Esparon of Milfab says the option supplied by employing a Preston Mini crane for this task significantly reduced the costs involved. Mr Esparon suggested the option to Peter McCarthy at the Preston Group who relished the challenge of using a Mini Crawler to erect steel on the roof of this new building. “Access was really tight and we knew we would have to be creative to come up with the solution” says Peter from the Preston Group, “It was great to work with a customer that thinks outside the square and for us to be able to meet the challenge”. The HQ Apartments are located on Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. The Preston Mini Crawler crane used for this project is the MC-285 model and is available for viewing on www.prestongroup.com.au |
